“So is there a most valuable person in the world?” Shelia asked while she was contemplating the fluffy white clouds over head. ” I know what my value is and I can see your value… although I am not sure that I agree that you are worth more than me… we will save that for our next discussion… who has the greatest value?”
“That’s actually a pretty decent question coming from a lowly-less than me person,” said Jack Just as he completed his last word Shelia chimed in “not any more after that comment, I see that your value dropped a whole bunch”… “You must have really meant that or your psychological responses would not have deducted so many point”… “I thought you were a better person than that, Jack”… “You actually believe that your better than me?” Shelia questioned with notable sadness in her voice.
Jack stammered for a moment then began his apology “well I didn’t mean it that way, I…I was just kidding” “Well, apparently not or your score would not continue to go down” Shelia responded. Jack moaned ” I don’t think I will ever get the handle on this personal value thing.” “Your not supposed to get a handle on it” Shelia announced loudly “you, you are supposed to be who you are, not trying to act the way you think someone wants you to act.” Shelia thought for a moment and as she looked Jack straight in to his eyes she said “If you don’t like who you are than change you not your act.”… “Think about some one else not yourself and work to help others not yourself.”… “become the kind of person you think you are or want to be or don’t complain about your falling value.”
“I was kind of surprised that my value was more than yours.” Jack replied “One thing is your willingness to work at the factory” Shelia announced. “Every one needs what you are building and if you don’t who will.” She continued “Apparently you are honest, trustworthy, and dependable”… ” You must treat your fellow workers with respect” she paused then added “apparently more than me” only to see her own score dip. Seeing that… she straightened up, apologized for her comment and continued on “What you do, how you do it, and why are all those things important to a person’s value” … “that is why I wonder who is the most valuable person might be.”… “not that it matters except for the example it must be and the inspiration to each of us who are seeking to channel our own lives.”
Jack piped in “you have and important job, and you are every bit as trustworthy as I am why would my value be greater?” ” In the scheme of things our values are a reflection of the importance of our work in relation to our societies prosperity because each of us independently value what you do and how you do it. We may not know you but we know that without what you do our lives would be negatively affected. What about a movie actress or baseball player. I don’t know Shelia said we would have to be in close proximity to them to actually see their worth. The one thing I do know is that if society could get along without them or what they do then their personal worth is more dependent upon their behaviors, attitudes, and willingness to sacrifice for others.
“We all enjoy a good movie” stated Sheila “but if I never went to another one would my life be incomplete”… “or would…could it be filled by something more enjoyable?” “Perhaps” Jack said “There is always the possibility that the story line would benefit me at the time and give me a new perspective, that I couldn’t get any other way, that the moral of the story would help me, would could make me a better person”… “in that case” Sheila said “your esteem would be reflected in the increased value of the actresses and actors”… “as well as the directors and producers” Jack interjected.
“Its possible that a really great actress, or any performer, might be esteemed by everyone that watches the performance so much that their value becomes the greatest? … “That there are so many lives which are enriched and attitudes are positively affected that maybe the greatest of the great might be a performer? Asked Sheila “Think about it” Jack said How many performers do you know that are equally good every day kind of people? “You know” Sheila said “come to think about it we don’t hear much about their daily lives do we?… “They don’t seem to be in the news for much other than there next movie.” “but we don’t hear anything about the good Samaritans either.”
“Back to the question at hand” Sheila interjected. “Who is the most valued person?” “My guess” Said Jack “is that there are a bunch of tied scores.” “What do you mean” questioned Sheila. ” Well… we know that each community is unique and that they have their own cultures and their customs”… “So the most valued person there may not be more valued than the most valued person in the adjoining community or, for that matter, even among nations” ” and the best in one may not, necessarily, be the best in another.”
“What if we were to get all of them together?” Sheila asked ” I suppose you could do that but what purpose would that serve?” Jack replied. “It would help to determine who the best of the best is” Sheila retorted ” I think it might be the most boring event in history” Stated Jack. “Why?” Sheila asked. “Well… from our own experience we know that our scores fluctuate even as we talk and that the smallest of things can cause our value to go down”…”If you had a gathering of the most unselfish, self controlled, service oriented, sacrifice making, willing to cooperate people in one room they would be paralyzed by their inability to do anything of greater value.”
“on the other hand” interjected Sheila “if they were who they were and they behaved the way they behaved then their scores would be of no consequence and the meeting of the minds would be fantastic.” She exclaimed “The ideas and experiences, each of them possess could cause an explosion of insight and intuition” “Naturally speaking” Jack started ” Naturally speaking there would be a couple of individuals who were more gifted and charismatic in character, than the others, who would eventually stand out.” “I think you are right” Commented Sheila. “I believe that the best of the best would eventually be recognized by the participants and their esteem would eventually register with the GM” Jack explained. Sheila thinking out-loud “but it wouldn’t really matter… would it?” “Nope, not a bit” agreed Jack.
