The transition from governed to governance was gradual although chaotic. As big government failed due to its own weight and societies were left to their own devices technology was ubiquitous. Programmers continued to innovate first with social networks and government interaction until eventually the governed began governing themselves both intrinsically and extrinsically. I could represent or be represented by consent, which has to be in real time. If I had given you consent to represent me for a specific reason and you assumed that you could represent me in any other given situation your authority would dissipate upon my action or inaction. If I didn’t or could give you consent your representation of me became moot and it was readily apparent to anyone you were negotiating with.
My ability to modify my situation was inherently limited by my own abilities and inabilities. Time and process resumed it preeminence as we found ourselves acting and reacting to the most pressing issues. Try as some did to institute command and control it was futile because it required compliance. The use of force to control various situations and circumstances continued to fail as people overwhelmed the imposed systems. That doesn’t mean there weren’t conflicts and causalities as there always has been it just means that progress was accidental more than incidental. It was accumulative and transitive.
Discrimination, which humans do instinctively, was enabled by technology because the communication became two way. I could perceive your intent as you mine. I was aware of your ideologies, as you could be aware of mine. We could decide whether to associate with each other but we could not victimize one another. I could seek like-minded people and congregate with them all the while my character and predispositions were apparent to anyone in association with me. Someone may not like me for my ideology, race, creed, color, or sex but that did not matter because I knew that and I was not subject to their authority so both he and I were free to disassociate ourselves. In the event someone tried to impose his will upon me or exact revenge because of my so called offensive behavior, attitude, or circumstance it became public knowledge and more than one person could and would step in to dissuade the person and tell him that his intent was not welcomed or appreciated. Because of this free association and the ability to relocate both physically and electronically discrimination becomes a valuable tool for society and the need for self-governance.
