Hunting and gathering pretty much came to an end after dark. Growing food was dependent upon the seasons. The harnessed animal or natural elements like water and wind depended upon the endurance of the animal or duration of an event. The industrial revolution was powered by coal, gas, and electricity. Our computers are tethered to the wall socket and the electrical network. All of which are subject to the turning off of the switch.
The perpetual motion machine has always been the dream of dreamers and control of the power switch has always been the objective of the ruthless. In the Utopian world of the god complex it could not really exist if someone’s finger was on the singular switch. The essential flow of information within a Utopian society would dictate a dystopia if it were not uncontrollable and inaccessible by the power-mongers.
Man himself cannot be trusted. The god complex has to supersede the nature of man and succeed even his good intentions and misguided notions.
It took many generations and lots of lost lives and nearly the absolute loss of freedom and liberty to tyranny and despotism but the human spirit prevailed in more than one way. It is the power of the human spirit that actually powers the human Internet. It required a resident population sufficient to empower the natural network but slowly the perpetual motion of people began to supplant the electrical requirements of the SDI servers, which were scattered through the world. Eventually the interconnections became organic. Society became connected through thought and touch. The implements of computation were still essential to deal with all of the available information but the powering of it was not controllable.
Olivia settled into her chair at her favorite coffee shop. She sensed the ephemeral connection to the network as a heightened awareness of herself. It wasn’t a tingling per-say but it did feel cool like stepping into an air-conditioned room. She glanced at the projection coming from the lens of her glasses; the incoming call was from her friend Judy. “yes” she said “I am at Oliver’s. “No, I am not sure what to do about about Elizabeth”. “Yes, I will meet you at her apartment in 10 minutes”
No sooner than she had finished her beverage than a personal transit car arrives at the curb. Three people jump up and hurry over to get in only to find it reserved for Olivia. Two more cars are approaching so there apparent dismay is quickly replaced by anticipation of the next arriving car.
Olivia slips into the front seat of the driverless car and buckles her seat belt. No sooner than it clicked into place than the car with its passenger was headed down the street and quickly merged into the flow of other transports. “Yes, Judy, I am on my way” “I will probably beat you there” ” I understand that Elizabeth is not handling the death of her brother very well and try as we all might it is not something anyone of us can change” “What we have to do is be as supportive as possible” Olivia listens for a moment to the voice entering her ear through an ear bud hardly even visible but especially so with her ears concealed by her auburn colored hair. “Yep, you’re right, she does need to focus her attention of someone else but for the while she needs to be able to grieve.” Olivia is quite for an instant then she says “You’re right again, If she is letting her anger get the best of her, I agree it is time to intervene.” As a mentor and guardian angel Olivia’s days were spent dealing with the trials and tribulations of a dozen people sometimes it seemed all at once.
It doesn’t seem like an individuals problems are collectively important until you realize that without the freedom to be an individual the strength of a society diminishes. Since the beginning of time the power-mongers have run rampant inflicting their will upon the unsuspecting and innocent people under their control. The far reaching impact of world war caused by a select few people and the horrendous cost of life due to the actions of ruthless despots in the quest of world domination all came to an end as the global mind gained consciousness. It no longer was possible to deceive the ignorant or fool the feeble minded. They still exist, the human species is both fallible and susceptible to genetics but it was no longer possible to keep a secret or to have secret combinations. The global mind made anyone paying attention aware of their neighbors intentions, whether good or evil. With all of the collective algorithms programmed into the global mind scanning, collating, and aggregating every activity of every attached individual no secrets were long kept. No harmful activities were long unnoticed. Those few unattached individuals were quickly identified and isolated. They may be able to have a secret but their actions could not be kept hidden. Their evil intentions were not allowed to be magnified either through dupes or accomplices.
Those associations at the perimeter of the global mind society whose intent it was to infiltrate and acquire power or to disrupt operations found it impossible to affect the network because it was so decentralized. Causing a power failure or destroying a network node was little more than a glitch. There was no central computer or power station. The organic code would quickly identify, isolate, and disassociate any malevolent code. Bugs, spies, Trojans, worms, all were identified and quarantined. The local harm was remediated and the data restored the global mind was disassociated but integrated by context rather than content. The individual not the collective is the strength of the system. In addition the power of the global mind is the intrinsic good of people. Most want to be safe, free, honest, and industrious as soon as they were faced with being informed and knowledgeable they subscribed to it. The beauty of the global mind was that it was aware of everything but it could aggregate, filter and disseminate the most important information in real time. One might be self-involved but when your personal values are involved it is not impossible to get you attention. This is not done by some self-appointed authority or even a legally elected authority it was accomplished by the relative values of the community being reflected back to the community and reacted to by the community. If something was important it went viral. Not just kitten videos but social important issues. It did not require consensus or necessarily a majority but a mere 10% who found it important enough to address it, share it. However unlike the biased media of the 20th century the global mind was connected to the population and the values of each aspect was represented. If an issue was really important enough that more than 10% paid attention to it would affect the collective value of everyone’s score if the trend was liberal or conservative each individual was affected by it and individual action would be taken. Those in favor would associate with the new order and those not in favor would disassociate themselves. Discrimination and segregation became the rule rather than the exception but the criteria was less prejudiced and more biased toward beneficial trends. Places and activities that practiced tolerance and forgiveness attracted more people than places that were not. Places where honesty, truthfulness, and service were the most important values would find more people wanting to live there. Places where industry, sacrifice and consecration were valued attracted the willing and the obedient. As has been evidenced by history good does prevail especially when evil has been exposed.
